Al Duncker better beware...there's another man in my mom's life. Actually, that's not quite right....it's her grandchildren who had better watch out-a new boy has captured my mother's heart! His name is Billy Elliott and he lives on stage on Broadway. My mom has brought Torin to him, Tobin to him and now she has brought Noah, Grayson and me to him. And we loved it!
We took the train up to New York to see Billy Elliott last Tuesday. I had never been on a train before so this was a first for me and for Noah. How is it right that Noah and I are experiencing something for the first time together! We had a great time on the train. We were able to get the seat where we were able to face each other. Yeah! We played the word game where the first person says a letter, the second adds another letter to it and so on...until the word ends. We always laughed when there was a moment of realization that you could delay ending the song by adding I-N-G! We loved it. I think Noah felt the same way about New York as he came up out of the train station. The assault of your senses of lights, sound, motion and smoke is ubiquitous. Noah fit right in and was comfortable walking ahead of us right away.
What I love about New York was the easy feeling between me and my mom. We can make each other laugh, can talk about anything, and we just share in the day. I love spending time with my mom and New York is one place we've been able to do it twice in the last year. It's a little hard to explain, but in New York, I feel like it's just us, going where we want to go, doing what anyone would love to be doing. When I was young and thought about the mom I wanted I see her on our days in NY. Does that even make sense? Not trying to be cheesy, just trying to say what I love about New York.
We were able to visit the M&Ms store where oh yes...MomMom left the Billy Elliott tickets on the 2nd floor of the store. Thank goodness it was only a senior second and she remembered before we left the store. MomMom bought Noah a red m&m tshirt and each family some m&ms. I loved the plethora of color in the store. We ate lunch and then walked back to the theater. Mom and I wished we would have been able to eat at a "New York" restaurant for lunch but we were in a hurry to get to the theater. And then Billy Elliott.....it was such a great story and the dancing was incredible! Mommom loves the cross dressing scene, I loved the scene after Billy's dad tells Billy he can't do ballet where he dances with the police who have riot shields as a prop, to metaphorically show the obstacle Billy must overcome. It was just great!!
Then we ate a quick dinner at Juniors and returned to take the train home! Mommom listened to her ipod and continued to text people on her phone. It was fun to watch her see if she had any text back. She loves it when she gets one! Text her if you can people.
Honestly, how do you thank your mom for doing something like this? What a great gift!! I am so extremely grateful that my mom loves me enough to share Billy with me and my family. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Thanks Mom. Noah says thank you too!

Brenna's Valentine's Party
Valentine's Day wasn't so much fun--I spent it sick with strep throat and the worst part was I was supposed to have 11 of Brenna's friends over for a party. No. The worst part of it was I was sick enough that I wasn't able to plan anything for Andy. (I'm not sure what his excuse is :))
So, I had to postpone the party until today. I was glad I waited because I thoroughly enjoyed the party and her friends. I thought I was ready. I had done so much legwork to get ready. I had....oh well, it doesn't matter. Let's just suffice it to say that I couldn't have done it without some of the other moms who stayed to help!
The thing I think the girls liked best was the cookie contest. The girls decorated cookies and then had a heart shaped cookie to use for the cookie contest. One of the things that tickled their fancy was that I had them name their cookie for the contest. They really liked it. We gave out an award for all of the cookies so that everyone would win (some of the cookie awards were best cookie name, future cookie designer, prettiest, best use of sprinkles, most colorful, cookie you most want to eat, and cookie you will most remember)! The hardest part of the night was trying to figure out who won what award. Luckily, I had put two hard working girls onto the task and they stepped right up!! Thanks Kimberly and Barbara.
The girls also made Valentine's for each other and decorated a mailbox with stickers and paint. They seemed to have so much fun. My biggest success of the night was that I had decided to feed them dinner as part of the night, no that's not it. But I got half the girls to eat green beans for part of their dinner! I fixed tortellini with parm cheese and butter and the green beans on the side. And they ate it-well some of them did. I just didn't want to serve pizza or chix nuggets!
I hope they had a great Valentine's Day and that they will remember it! Happy Valentine's Day baby girl. I hope you liked it.

Snow Days
We had 3 wonderful, glorious days off from school January 26-28. The first two days were announced the morning of and Fridays day off was announced on Thursday evening. It was wonderful to be indulgent and lazy and sleep in, watch movies, and eat.
Brenna was happy to go sledding across the street at her elementary school. She went one morning with her friend Caroline. As all of the local children go there, it was fun to see her meet up with some friends.
Tobin and Noah had epic battles on the Xbox.
